What I Learned from Tournament Practice.

That playing tournament style games with pre-picked teams is much more fun at an actual tournament when you are playing against people you hardly know.

I want to apologize to Nick and Anchovy especially for any play on my part that came across as too physical or aggressive.

Nick, I'm specifically thinking about the time that I forced you into the boards in the third game, that was uncool. I'm sorry.

Lucky I don't think I crossed the line with you, but let me know if you think I did. I need to stay in your good graces because who knows when I might need someone to make some windows fit for me.

I guess the bottom line is this. Anything that happened in our matches today will happen much more intensely in Columbia on the 7th and 8th, so it probably was good practice. It just felt kind of shitty. I'm excited to back to just mixing up the mallets.

Our Bike Polo Club is Awesome.

Thanks Dudes and Dudette

No need to apologize to me. I dont feel bad for the roughness (i was surprised right off the bat). I just feel bad i lost. I wanna play MORE as teams the next week leading up to Columbia.
As far as the roughness goes, i think some of us play the roughest of any teams anywhere. I always hate playing against Lee and Cole (on the same team). I just get batted around too much (and thats coming from me). Today was a 10/10 on the intense scale for me. It may get more intense for Lee's team, but its not going to get any worse for mine at the tournament.
Lee, the only thing i think your team needs is fix the bike issues. ASAP. Wheel covers on fronts and fix Jake's chain deal(as long as there is a quick release skewer on there i think its just gonna happen again, you need a solid rear axle or a tensioner of some sort-my 2 cents).
Anchovy
PS. Ben, Nick and i want to play any night this week that its not raining. If you can get your team together we can play more team vs.

You guys can play rough with my team. I play people how they play me. If you want to have a check each other into the boards contest, I'll oblige!

I was more disappointed with how I played than with how you played me. That thing between us in the goal where you were still leaning on me after making me foot down so you could reach over two bikes to score was legit play. It was just hard to watch from where I was, helpless.

Tournaments can get intense. But there are players of all skill levels there. So even if you aren't "in it to win it" you will still get a few fairly matched and therefore intense games in over the weekend.

I'm in town tonight and tomorrow and can practice. I'll be back from Denver late Sunday night, and available all next week.

Nick, Anchovy - you guys both have such amazing and unique styles. The ways in which you defend from midfield by attacking the ball carrier will be invaluable on the huge court in CoMO, where rotating a man all the way back to the net takes a minute. Communication and practice will help find the best way to merge your styles. It's gonna be an awesome force when it clicks. Whether Ben or I are your third.

http://comopolo.com/midwest/register

I registered anchovy and our third.

Lee, Your team needs to register still, and any other people that think they will be going.

I have requested housing for 9 people.

We can pick up some of the other stagglers to fill out a third team. There is a very good player from Ft Lauderdale coming in if either Ben or I want to hook up with a stranger. Keep an eye on the Midwests thread on .ca to stay in the loop.

so tuesday night if it does not rain? anchovy plan on sending out that polo text. i need to make up for not playing on sunday..got off work too late.

Is Tim spying on our polo club in the lead up to Midwests??

COMO cheaters.

Toph A. Loaf said...

why yes. tim is spying on us. didnt you hear him yelling "BORRRRING" every three seconds? no matter how the goal was scored? or even if the goal wasnt scored.

some one definitely needs to join forces with jared (from pensacola). he and his girlfriend came and stayed with comopolo for a week over the summer, and he is a top-notch player! similar playing style to jake and wayman-lots of hard sprinting, lots of falling down... i already emailed him and told him that some A players from stl would need a team.

someone should just claim him as a teammate before its too late while ya'll hash out your team issues.

and is it too rainy for polo tonight?

Julia,

Tell Jared he's a part of STL Bike Polo for Midwests. He's an honorary Cuddler that weekend.

Lucky,

Tell that ThePoloFuries dude on .ca that he's an honorary Cuddler too (if he wants to be).

I'll play with those guys if they'll play with me.

I will bring a squeegee regardless.

Maplewood is insanely hard to dry. Lindenwood would probably be the better choice.
