Wash U Security...

...is a fan of Bike Polo.

We're free to use their parking garage when we please.

Thanks to Jake for getting pulled over in the Loop by the head of Wash U security.

Garage Polo Tonight?

It's dry and warm. Let's see how the other half of polo people play (those fools that don't have 8 roller rinks at their disposal).

If we get enough people to play, head to Wash U. From Skinker, go West on Forest Park Parkway. Turn Left on Big Bend. Immediately turn left on Snow Way Drive. The garage we're using will be 100 yards ahead on your LEFT.

We'll be playing in the lowest possible level.

Let us know if you're in.

2010 North American champs

If you've been keeping up with (inter)national bike polo news, you know that a group of 25 players from all over has been hand picked to do 2 things: 1. Pick the location of the 2010 North American HCBP championships, and 2. Design a more representative elected body to take over whatever tasks are required to keep bike polo the way we like it, but with hundreds more people playing every year. I.E. Bigger, more expensive/sponsored tournaments with uniform rules and regional qualifiers, etc.

St Louis is currently in the Midwest region, and the 4 people representing us in these first two issues are: Chris from CoMO, Ben from Chicago, Jonny from Madison, and Jake from Milwaukee. The two bids on the table for the 2010 NA's are Boston, MA and Madison, WI. Look over the bids if you've got some time. If you then have an opinion about which city you'd rather cuddle in, contact our reps and let 'em know what you think. Voting closes at Midnight on Friday, November 27th.

After a 2010 NA's host is chosen, work will begin on chartering and empowering an elected body to help administrate bike polo on a larger scale. Keep an eye on bikepolo.ca or this space for updates and opportunities to voice an opinion about those issues.

Friendlies. Saturday, December 5th. Right here.

It's our turn to host the highway 70 polo-show, and the date has been set. Noon til dark, we will play polo with all comers from Columbia, KC, and anyone else we can rope into driving to our fair town.

The possibility exists that we will need to house/entertain a few people overnight. Lemme know who can do that and where and we'll get everyone set.

What I Learned from Tournament Practice.

That playing tournament style games with pre-picked teams is much more fun at an actual tournament when you are playing against people you hardly know.

I want to apologize to Nick and Anchovy especially for any play on my part that came across as too physical or aggressive.

Nick, I'm specifically thinking about the time that I forced you into the boards in the third game, that was uncool. I'm sorry.

Lucky I don't think I crossed the line with you, but let me know if you think I did. I need to stay in your good graces because who knows when I might need someone to make some windows fit for me.

I guess the bottom line is this. Anything that happened in our matches today will happen much more intensely in Columbia on the 7th and 8th, so it probably was good practice. It just felt kind of shitty. I'm excited to back to just mixing up the mallets.

Our Bike Polo Club is Awesome.

Thanks Dudes and Dudette

Polo on Saturday, Race on Sunday.

This week we're gonna switch it up a little so we can go support some of those other bike related things that sometimes happen here.

So: Saturday, 2pm, Mt Pleasant Park, bring goals, play polo.

Sunday at 3...

October

1. Some folk would like to play this month at Mt Pleasant. To change it up, to practice for the giant court at the midwests, to get the ghetto flavor back into StL Bike Polo. Opinions?

2. About those Midwests: They are November 7-8 in Columbia. Any and all StL players are welcome to form up teams and come along. It will be a good time. We should start practicing with teams of who is going, so we can make a competitive showing, yeah?

3. The weekend of Oct 17th a bunch of our regulars are taking what sounds like an awesome motorcycle trip up to Chicago. For those of us staying in town, the new K.C. crew has offered to host friendlies with us, CoMO, K.C., and Lawrence, KS on that Saturday. Anyone want to take a cross-state polo trip with me?

Bike Polo every Sunday afternoon at Lindenwood Park! Most Wedesday evenings, too! You could get good, travel to tournaments in exotic lands (Kentucky) and win crap (like, really, crap).

Friendlies in CoMO and other bizness.

Next weekend we're supposed to meet up with the new KC polo crew in Columbia for some friendly play. Saturday, August 22nd. Leave the StL around 10am, play at noon till we drop.

Still waiting to hear about a team for worlds.

The North Americans were amazing. They pulled it off with a crew of 15 polo players working pretty much half-time for two months. We should probably be happy we aren't submitting a bid for 2010. Many people said how excited they were about the lock in. Folk from NYC and Seattle are planning to attend.

The 7th Midwests will be in CoMO on November 7-8, 2009. We may be asked to take out-of-towners from Lambert to Columbia. More on that later.

The Lock-in is a go!

I think I've mentioned this idea to everyone in person, but here's all the info in one place: I wanted StL Bike Polo to host a fun, dead-of-winter, non-competitive, indoor event at the Skatium, pretty much just cos it's there and we can.

Today I finally talked to Robert, the owner and nailed down some details. We tentatively have the whole Skatium reserved from 12:30pm Saturday, January 16th until 11:30am on Sunday, January 17th. That's right, an overnight lock-in.

The rules: We can have outside food. We can roll out sleeping bags. We don't have to change our equipment or tires or anything to spare the rink surface. We have to buy our drinks from him, 2 dollars a can for beer 1 for soda, and he can only serve until 1 am. He discounted the hourly rate down to 800 bones for the entire 23 hours. He will need a 200 dollar deposit in the next couple weeks to secure the time.

Yes? Sounds like fun?

BIKE POLO EVERY SUNDAY!

We still play bike polo every Sunday at Lindenwood Park. Anyone who is interested in playing should show up at 2:00pm. We have a loaner bike available. Post a comment if you want to use our loaner. We also have plenty of extra mallets available. What else do you have to do on Sundays?

How the other half lives

I got curious about horse polo after reading Doug D's recent post. Turns out, horse polo is hella played in the greater St Louis area. Anyone want to take a drive out to west county with me and picnic around huge, sweaty animals some Saturday afternoon this summer? If we wanted to try to get Billy Busch's sponsorship attention, we could try to set up a parking lot exhibition match.

Dayton this weekend.

Sorry I left last Sunday without getting this stuff straightened out. I'm going. I can drive 2 other people and bikes comfortably. I can drive 3-4 other people and bike uncomfortably.

Leaving as early as possible on Saturday morning to get in on all the pick-up going on that afternoon. There will be a huge alley cat Saturday night. Sunday is the tournament. Monday is Memorial Day, which you should have off. I don't care if we leave Sunday night or Monday morning. Google maps sez it's a 6 hour drive.

Our hosts would like us to bring our own sleeping bags, pillows, and towels. If we are more than one, but less than two teams, Lee gets first choice of team to be on. There may be some stragglers from CoMO to fill in an All-Missouri squad. I'll look for my St Louis City flag. It's around here somewhere.

Saturday, April 4th. StL vs. CoMO.

This Saturday is the big day of friendlies and the Roller Derby halftime exhibition match in Columbia. Who's in? Who's out? Who can drive?

The plan is to leave St. Louis around noon, play friendlies all afternoon, get dinner, pick our exhibition team of three and an alternate, do the halftime show, party, crash, drive back Sunday morning.

My car will be in Chicago, but I can put my rack on anyone's car.

We will need some kind of uniform to make the exhibition easy on the audience. Matching wheel covers and or shirts and shorts. 'Chovie, you got anything fun for this? Trent, can you get some more cloroplast and vynil?

I am down like a clown.

Bike Porn and Polo

Do you like custom bikes? Do you like bike polo? I'm driving to Indianapolis this Friday to go to the Hand Built Bike Show and play polo with kids from Indy, Chicago, and Lexington. Perhaps more. Perhaps someone will see the game and make the ultimate 26" cruiser/polo bike.

Depending on interest, I may go up to Chicago on Saturday for the final stage of the winter alleycat series up there, which is always a good time. If not, we'll just drive back from Indy Saturday night and be back in time for polo at Lindenwood. Hopefully there won't be any damn kids on the court this week.

This weekend and April 4th

In addition to the awesomeness that will be the gulf coast in February, there are two more things happening more locally in the polo-verse.

1. Friendlies in Columbia this weekend? Sunday Feb. 8th. I can drive one car, who's in?

2. Also in Columbia: The Columbia Roller Derby team is hosting the St Louis Roller Derby team on Saturday, April 4th. The crew at CoMO Polo suggested a Columbia vs St Louis Bike Polo match as the half time show to continue the theme. The idea was accepted. We need a team of three to go play a ten minute game against a Columbia squad.

Free access to the Derby and the after parties. I will buy fishnets and booty shorts for any players who dare to wear them. The folks in charge need to know the identities of the three St Louisans pretty soon, so they can make the playbill. Places to stay are arranged. Who's down? Which of us can plan that far ahead?

SESPI Feb. 14-15

Lucky, Dumptruck and I are heading down to Pensacola Beach for the SESPI FEB. 14-15, 2009.

I know it is a long drive but it should be worth it. Anyone else want to go?

Just think Bike Polo in shorts and a T-shirt, hard to remember what that is like.

Sunday 1/11/09

Forecast is high thirties and partly sunny. Sounds like polo weather to me. Get a few hours sleep after the Fiasco and meet us at Lindenwood Park at 2pm!

Don't forget that Fiasco Saturday night.

Don't forget the Gold Sprints at the Atomic Cowboy Wednesday Night.

Let's pick a weekend later this month to send a car or two out to Columbia to play polo with our fellow Missourians.
