End of an Era

Tonight, I put together a large-diameter pipe, one-end-open mallet head on a lacrosse stick. Thus ending 3 years of playing on small-diameter, double-capped heads and ski poles. You may now call for me to scoop-a-doop pass to you up-court.

WHAT THE FUCK! NO PICTURE!? WHO TAUGHT THIS G-PA HOW TO POST TO THE BLOG?

Lucky said...

Sorry, no digital camera, no picture-phone. More Grandpa than polo today. You'll see it soon enough. Stealing all your passes and sending wrister goals over your wheels.

Ben said...

Lacrosse shaft? Are you going to be chopping our mallets in half?

That seemed to be the strategy of several teams in Madison?

Toph A. Loaf said...

okay. you NEED to find a new victim for your little striking demo...i beleive you owe me a mallet shaft.

Kurt loader is on his way back to us! All four tires were slashed up in that godforsaken hell-hole, but the van and out stuff is intact. 5:30-ish, Trent's house.

can someone let meknow if we are playing tommorrow where and where number is 314-255-7600.

Toph A. Loaf said...

rinks are maybe still wet from last night. supposed to rain again around 2 or 3. if we do play, i suggest L-Wood for the pavillion. im at work till 2, but as usual i can play today.

Lucky said...

I'll play 2pm at Lindenwood.

May I borrow a digital camera and a data cable from someone this afternoon? I need to get some pics of my car for a craigslist ad.

i beleive...THAT IS WHAT SHE SAID said...

so. its not supposed to rain til five. %30. whaddaya say we go and get some shafts and some balls together and hit em around a little bit. just hit em around.

Anchovy said...

I can bring a camera and take pics. Data cable? Those don't even come with cameras anymore.
2 at Lindenwood it is.

Toph A. Loaf said...

i have a USB data cable. or you can just dump the pictures off the card directly onto your computer. Fancy Pants.

colin and i will be there at 2

i'll be there around 2 but i probably have to leave before 5. -Patrick

Toph A. Loaf said...

has anybody been by the court today? (lindenwood)

Ben said...

Can someone bring a little chain lube? Bikes that went to Madison spent some time in the rain.

Lucky said...

I need some way to get the pics from the camera to my computer, which does not have a card reader, just usb ports.

I would prefer to borrow the camera, as 1. the car is not clean yet and 2. I wanted to take some product shots of the new polo levers. I doubt Anchovy can do his bizness without a camera for very long.

Toph A. Loaf said...

i'll bring my digi camera. plus the cord. plus a neat little case to put it in. plus some extra lenses. its a nice camera, but i trust yout with it.

Anchovy said...

I will be late. But not by much

Lucky said...

Thanks, toph. That means a lot. I'll bring you a ski pole.

Evan, please come to polo today. I've got your big, honkin, hitch-mount bike rack.

Time? Cost? Dress code?

free. 7pm. it is an underwear party.

its a facebook thing.

You're joking about the underwear thing. That doesn't even make sense as a themed dress code.

I do like free movies, though. Imma try to get there. Who's in?

Also the moolah is free alot of the time on weeknights. Go in and goto the right and go all the way up to the balcony. Ive only seen a person there checking for tickets on the weekends. The only downside is that you dont get a couch.

There's no point to watching a movie about cut-off jean jacketed gangs if you can't go with your favorite cutt-off jean jacketed polo crew. Is anyone available to ride up to Midtown with me for this?

bench minor style grudge match between como and st. louis sounds awesome. lets do it. August 14 or 15 at Mt. Pleasant?

No maximum number of players. 3 - 20 minute periods. winner wins.

Ben said...

It'd be sick if we could do it at Cosmo Park and remove a plastic Jersey Barrier on each side of the rink so the teams had an entrance/exit.

10 on 10

Just thinking through the keyboard.

Mt. Pleasant Manager said...

The visitor's goal at Mt Pleasant opens as a double door.

Mt. Pleasant has 2 side points of entry. One on each side. Lets put the visitor's on the land mine side.

Evannn said...

Not to interupt this brain storming session, because it sounds awesome! But does anyone by chance wanna play tonight? I can't tomorrow so I thought I would just check and see if anyone else was interested... I'm not trying to take anyway from Wed night polo or anything, just anxious to play... Let me know!

618-520-3310 if that works better for ya

the girl said...

Also not trying to interrupt, but one important factor to keep in mind: I will be in town from Aug 12-16 for my birthday. A polo party is inevitable, a stl vs. como polo party would be indelible.

Ben said...

I could play. What's the weather like in the city? It's dumping rain at my office right now.

Evannn said...

Rats... If it's raining then obviously no polo. My work is on the exact wrong side of the city to predict the weather.

Why does this keep happening to me!

Lucky said...

Kayce, would you like to crash in my apt this weekend while I'm out of town? All you gotta do is feed the cats and not trash the place. I've got a few hardcore 7" you can play on the credenza to lull yourself to sleep.

This offer goes for all of you. I'll be out of town from Thursday afternoon until Sunday night, and these cats can't feed themselves!

Kayce said...

Lucky that sounds pretty awesome. I can keep an eye on your cats and not break your shit.

Also the rain seems pretty hit or miss tommorow, we might get some games in.

Lucky said...

Rad. I'm leaving straight from work Thursday, so I'll give you the key tonight at polo. You can even come back here with me from the court if you like and crash on the couch, so you don't need to get another ride into the city tomorrow.

If there's to be spotty rain today, I vote Lindenwood, as early as people can start, to beat the soccer thugs to the rink.

Francis said...

Lucky, will you bring me a single cap mallet head? How do they cost?

Lucky said...

They cost very well, thank you.

I'll bring it.

Kayce said...

So you want to be a hockey player in St. Louis.

Your answer determines whether or not you make the cut.

HOCKEY COACH said...

can we isolate the problem to ROLLER HOCKEY players. eveyone knows roller hockey is for hockey players who didnt make the "B,C,or even the D team."
they lead sad frustrated lives; wearing down expesive sticks. having only three wheels, never knowing any different. thus they are outcast by the hockey community and forced to play on concrete courts, on which they spend their dissapointed lives practing goal celebrations, and complaining. posting on blogs.. and other such sordid activities.

hellochris said...

so are we gonna do a COMO vs. STL bench minor style game or what?

Ben said...

Yes! We need a date and place. 10 v 10. Three 20-minute periods. Team (gang) colors. Goal scorers. Defensive walls. Violent enforcers. Gatorade bath for the winning team.

We could do straight up STL vs. CoMo, or we could pick two captains and do a draft resulting in mixed teams.

hellochris said...

a mini draft would let us mix in the kansans, and would be pretty interesting. i would prefer to keep it a test of the depth of our talent pools, straight como vs. stl. i really like the thought of sharing a jersey with most of como and playing on one team together.

plus, it'd be for bragging rights this way, and i think the rivalry makes it more fun while you're playing.

Andrew WK said...

PARTY TIP: Don't worry about anything anymore! Worrying is wasted energy that could be used to party.

nick said...

I say como vs stl

Toph A. Loaf said...

i say early sept. for this shindig. lets decide on a date so people can take off work and whatnot. maybe second weekend of Sept? sound good?

Ben said...

When does Evan leave for Denver? We should do it before he moves.

Toph A. Loaf said...

Agreed. Evan when do you leave. We wanna have a party.

zach-bloomington said...

Can i become a temporary resident of STL just to play in this game? I'll even wear white pants if that what it takes!
Or how about an impartial referee? I promise to be so drunk that i miss 9 out of 10 calls and sleep the entire second half.

Anonymous said...

Are you trying to make reference to Lucky's superior refereeing?

hellochris said...

i don't know when evan moves, but i move to chicago sept. 1, so i personally would prefer to see it happen before then. i say we either do it at cosmo park or all chip in and rent out the skatium for an hour and a half.

zach - i'm fine with it, stl will need help keeping up with como's deep ass bench, ha!

Lucky said...

I vote for StL vs CoMo, too. But if you guys want the Scary Larry kids in your pool, we get Bloomington.

Is anyone from CoMO going to Berlin? We could do it that weekend.

Lucky said...

RE: renting the skatium. It's possible, but as far as weekends go, the further in advance you can schedule it, the better a chance that the time slot isn't already booked up. Weekends are busy over there. Also, it's 50/hr.So; 2 hours is 100 bones divided by 2 teams of 10. Oh, that's only 5 dollars a head. That's do-able.

I volunteer not to ref. There's a roller hockey league that practices at the Skatium. We may be able to con one of them into reffing for us.

Toph A. Loaf said...

yeah. thats hella cheap. lets set a date. seems more like late august now. maybe last weekend in august? if thats cool with Chris and Evan.

Ben said...

NO REFS. We're all friends, and we know the rules of bike polo. It'd just be like pickup...except we're constantly making line changes on the fly.

We're perfectly capable of policing ourselves.

I'd be down to attempt a Skatium session or drive to Cosmo Park.

Speaking of Skatium...Lock-In, anyone? Now's probably the time to decide if we're seriously doing it or not.

Evannn said...

I don't have an exact date for the move yet, but it's looking like it will be sept 21st at the earliest. So I've got some time. The sooner we can pick a weekend, the better it'll work out for me though. So if we say the last weekend in august, then let's take a general vote and go with it.

And I say stl vs como...

Let the heckling training begin!!!

Toph A. Loaf said...

im totally down with helping out at the lock-in. im also down for riding with someone down to como. i say saturday the 28th and of course into sunday the 29th of August at COSMO for the CoMo, STL challenge.
-i need at least a two week window to take off work.

Francis said...

I'm definitely in for both the bench minor and the lock-in. The last week in August is fine with me, if we are going to Columbia I also need to know soon so that I can ask off Saturday night.

Ben said...

I would plan on going to CoMo. It's pretty short notice to secure the Skatium.

Toph A. Loaf said...

so last weekend of august is good with people? if there is an issue speak up now.

Tim A said...

Cosmo it is! Everyone OK with that? Plan on partying afterwards, as you'll all have a place to crash. Still in the process of making sure most of us can make it, but a month should be more than plenty of time.

sebastian said...

You guys playing tomorrow? I'm game!

zach-bloomington said...

Hooray for big courts and big teams!

So who's gonna be the manager/coach for each respective team? Lee? Lucky? Charlie? Chris?

Toph A. Loaf said...

i think lucky would be a good team manager..then again lee would be awesome too. i dont know if i would want our team manager nodding off all G-Pa style during standard columbia 5am partying. advantage-Lee.
-sebastian. if courts are dry, which i assume they are. we play at 2pm. Lindenwood. Be there and bring a bicycle. Be warned. hardcore training has started, a challenge has been issued.

Ben said...

I don't know about CoMo, but for as long as I've been playing polo in STL, there has been no leader. We don't have A, B, and C teams. We're all equal. We're all in charge.

"We don't have a king."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xd_zkMEgkI

And that fact creates interesting situations when security guards or police officers pull up and ask, "Who is in charge here?"

Do we need a captain for the Bench Minor?

What would his/her responsibility be outside of being the first person to touch the trophy at the end of the day?

colin said...

hey i am playing today and want to be part of the bench minor and lock in

Anchovy said...

Polo 2 lindenwood? Yeah? Or is 1 better? I wont be there till 1:3o at the soonest.

Toph A. Loaf said...

usual time is 2. i cant be there till 2:30. if you guys wanna start early awesome. hey, chovi. can you text Pete Henry and ask him to come to polo today so i can give him some doughnuts?

hellochris said...

some sort of manager/player or outright coach is gonna help a lot. somebody has to get the bench in order, calling out the line changes and keeping it all on the same page. at bench minor in NYC it was usually a manager and a couple of assistant managers who were all players too.

Toph A. Loaf said...

i have to say ben and lee have both shown admirable moments of leadership. ben with his POOP helmet"im in charge here" and lee with his undying enthusiasm and pre ride oratory gold at every fiasco.
i also feel we do not need a captain(i was just entertaining the idea of Lucky acting as coach\honourable referee and Lee yelling 'C'mon Toph' every 10 seconds).
Perhaps bloomington really does need a captain or manager. after we kill everyone on their team!!!!!!!

Coach said...

Team Denim Vests vs. CoMo

Tim A said...

Some players in Columbia have big enough egos to believe they are "A" players, but it is what it is. Some of us play for kicks, while others are overly competitive. Whatever the case, we will most certainly dominate:)

Lee said...

I'm going to be out of town the last weekend in August.

Tim D. said...

Me too, Lee. I have a family wedding. If this one happens at Cosmo...I want another one to happen in STL in the fall, so Lee and I can kill each other on the court, of course.

Love,

Tim D.

Toph A. Loaf said...

no worries. i think we can manage throwing another one together...it doesent have to be bench minor or anything like that, it would be cool just to get CoMo, Stl, Bloom, and maybe Kc together.

Tim D. said...

Well of course friendlies are always good, but I would like to try to hockey style, full team, one hour game thing. It's just that I absolutely can't do it that weekend.

zach-bloomington said...

Friendlies are good but we all play plenty of pickup- i'd like to further explore this team polo concept. Here in btown we occasionally play "east coast rules" with 20 minute nonstop games, 4 players per side (rotating-,1 always sits), and no goal limit. It really makes you work together to pass and strategize. It's fun for a change.

Coaches or not, either way i just wanna play some epic polo!

Anonymous said...
