Ten ten-minute cowbell videos.

Anonymous said...

its actually powder to the eyes, then bat to the face.

Lucky said...

If it were a 10 minute video, I would at least have control of the volume, or I could choose not to watch it at all.

Just in case you needed more evidence that I don't know how to party ...

Jon said...

What do you guys do if it rains?

Toph A. Loaf said...

Me and Amandaconda from Seattle are gonna need a ride to M-wood tomorrow night, assuming the rink will be dry. Anyone available?

Zion said...

How many times can I borrow a bike and mallet before I get baby powdered?

Anonymous said...

As long as you don't borrow more than TOPH you are fine. I think you have about 2 years before you get there.

Francis said...

Hey Anchovy, do you have any ski poles? Bring some if you do. One of my mallets cracked in Lexington.

Toph A. Loaf said...

i don't borrow bikes or mallets anymore. shut yer anonymous face. Zion, there is no limit on borrowing mallets or bikes.

Information said...

There is a limit to borrowing gear, but Zion, you're nowhere near the limit. So don't worry.

Toph, you were borrowing Connor's bike a week ago, and you'll probably borrow his stuff again tonight. 18 months playing polo, and you're still borrowing gear.

Toph A. Loaf said...

whatever. see you at maplewood.

Toph A. Loaf said...

-unless people acutally show up early. then we must play at Mr. Pleasant.
i did send out a text, chovi is out and connor is gonna be late.

Rose said...

This is the last week of me being late to Sunday polo for awhile. See you kids at 3ish, probably.

Ben said...

Playing at L-Wood means we have to start at 2. And it's dark by 5. That's not enough polo.

If you're going to wake me up with a text, show up at the time your text says!

STL Bike Polo.

Do you like night polo?

Do you hate Maplewood's slippery surface?

Do you wish we had better lighting at our night polo sessions?

Well there's a decent rink in Webster at the intersection of Elm and East Glendale. The boards and goals are like those found in Cosmo park in CoMo, and the surface is grippy cement.

I'd say it's about as long as Lindenwood, and much wider than Lindenwood. And the lighting is more than enough to allow us to play without supplemental lights.

The only problem is that there were 20+ hockey players playing two separate games. I don't know if it's this crowded every night, but this rink may be worth some of our time.

Any thoughts?

Also, it's supposed to rain on Wednesday...So does anyone wanna polo on Tuesday?

Toph A. Loaf said...

we should give it a try. in my experience. hockey players seem to be the most open to bike polo and for the most part they seem to think its pretty rad.
lets do this.

Jon said...

I'll play polo with you tomorrow Ben. I was just about to post asking if anyone would want to check webster out but you beat me to it. shucks. I assume you went down there and checked it out? I used to go to the skate park right next to it and I can't recall ever seeing anyone on the court after 8.

I was thinking about contacting the rec center and asking for permission to play there but maybe we should just wait for them to yell at us. I know there was a huge issue with the skaters and bikers not wearing helmets at the skate park that ultimately resulted in them taking out all of the ramps over 5 feet (insurance policy), but They never have required helmets for roller hockey players and always have been to occupied yelling at skaters to yell at roller hockey players. I think they've pretty much given up trying to control the skate park and court.

Here's where the park is located http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Webster+Groves+Parks+&+Rec&city=Webster+Groves&state=MO&address=33+E+Glendale+Rd&zipcode=63119&country=US&latitude=38.576221&longitude=-90.358033&geocode=ADDRESS&id=8035288 .

chocolate alaska said...

i did a little research on the webster rink - according to the fall 2010 - winter 2011 webster groves dept. of parks & recreation brochure, the action park (inline skating rink and skate park) are available year round 8am-9pm weather permitting (course must be dry), first-come first-served, or by reservation (314-963-5600).

i also found a coupon for .50 cent popcorn with the purchase of any size fountain soda inside the rec center.

i'll call them tomorrow (tues) to see if it's open, unless you guys would rather show up with baseball bats and baby powder and make our own rules

-bj

Ben said...

I was there at 5:45, and it was packed. In my opinion, it would be hard to convince a bunch of hockey kids to let us use their rink, and waiting til 8 is too late to start playing. It is first come, first serve, but finding that gap where we can snatch the rink may be tough.

The rink in Webster is available for rent. It's $35 an hour...Which divided amongst 10-15 people isn't that much per person. My thought was that we could rent the rink for a couple of hours starting at 5:30 or 6:30, and then keep the rink til the park closed (or they kicked us out).

I don't know what we should do.

I'm just presenting options.

We need solid support from (almost) everyone before moving night polo further away from the city and potentially paying money for rink time.

What's your opinion, STL?

Lee said...

I'm not interested in paying to play.

chocolate alaska said...

i just called, reservations have to be made a week in advance. the lady said weeknights are usually pretty empty, but according to ben that's not true. we could write up an intent to use contract, meaning we'd tell them we'll play every wednesday night from 6 to close (for example), and the fees would be lenient. $5 a week per player let's say if ten are in. i'd prefer not to pay but if it's our best option i'm in. does anyone have floodlights or a generator?

as for tonight, i'm free after 6:30. i'm willing to truck out to webster and hope there's an availability

Anonymous said...

I can't be there tonight, so any batting and powdering is going to have to be up to somebody else. I am still planning to play on Wednesday, weather permitting.

This Webster thing sounds like a lot to deal with for what we'd be getting. I'd be interested in trying it out sometime, but I'm not at all interested in paying for it (at this point), especially when we've got the essentially hassle-free Maplewood closer to most of us anyway.

ps. Wherever you guys play, Jon should wear his wig.

I don't want to pay for polo either, unless were paying to use an indoor court when we have no other option. Have you guys checked into any of the indoor rinks around here besides the skatium?

Application said...

Nick "The Lazer" is the only person that has sent in his application.

What are you waiting for?

Application Review Committee said...

Beef has also turned in an application. It was promptly accepted.

Ben said...

I just talked to Robert at The Skatium. He recently purchased a used tandem bike, and like all used bikes, it needs a little tuning. Does anyone wanna make a few bucks by doing a little cable tightening? It sounded like the brakes needed to be adjusted, and the gear shifting needed to be smoothed.

He called me because he knew most bike polo players know how to deal with these issues. If someone or a few people would be willing to help, I think it'd be a good gesture to the man that's making the greatest Bike Polo event possible.

King said...

I'll do it. I'm off tomorrow anyway. Put him in touch w me.

FYI: Some CoMo shredders will be in town for Thanksgiving. They're looking for some polo on Friday or Saturday.

Back to the paying for Polo courts with lights... Why not spend the money on a generator? They aint cheap, but I'm sure a used one would show up on craigs list or the like for a decent price. If you have to pay for court time it should have a roof over it!

its not that bad. everyone always says its slick but then there all like"its not even that slick"
i just like to play later than 5:30.
see you at mt pleasant.

Anonymous said...

for me, lindenwood and maplewood are just way more convenient, doesn't matter much to me what surface we play on -Patrick

King said...

Those of us who are trying to progress the sport in StL know that it is a court that limits the difficulty of play. I am ever thankful for it's existence and lighting. However we (as a club) should be trying to better ourselves. I like showing up in other towns and being able to be competitive at there level. Toph I know u don't take it seriously. But some of us do.

We should be looking for a winter spot (with lights) before it's too cold to care.

Anonymous said...

We're at Mt. Pleasant right now. Get off your computer and get to polo. You're late.

Again, for the tenth time: Lindenwood isn't an option for Sunday polo during the fall/winter due to time constraints and limited sunlight.

I've also heard Toph whine about Maplewood's surface.

Toph A. Loaf said...

if you are not doing anything now. you should be at mt. pleasant.
