24 Hours of Partying!!

I'll be honest, I was not totally convinced that having a 2011 St. Louis Bike Polo Lock-In was a good idea. For me, the first lock in was a life changing experience.  By the end I had completely lost my capacity to speak, and mostly lost my desire to sleep. It was fun overload.

Lucky's idea was brilliantly conceived and flawlessly, while seemingly effortlessly executed. St. Louis Bike Polo showed the rest of the polo-verse what we are about. Having fun, applying energy and being inclusive. The people who showed up fell right in and, I would like to think,  everyone there had an amazing time. For me it was perfect.

So when it came time to think about planing a 2011 Lock-In, I was hesitant. They say lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice. I was afraid that anything less than perfection in 2011 would somehow take away from 2010. Thankfully, the rest of the club didn't share my reservations.

Ben took the reigns and did what St. Louis bike polo does best, started a blog. Then he secured the venue, tiny liquor bottles, pinata, small motorcycles, Mountain Dew, playground balls and tens of thousands of ounces of beer that it takes to make a bike polo lock-in a success. The people came. They played polo. They partied. They danced. They bled. They hit the kicker ramp. They smashed the Pinata. They earned merit badges. And they had a blast. Thanks to everyone involved.

Fuck lightning, We'll make our own.
-Lee

I found a great quote about the lock in on the LexRides forum.

"...around 6 AM, with the music, the 50+ person dodgeball game, the mini motos, the guy running/riding around with the shredded remnants of the Andrew W.K. pinata, the lack of sleep, the alcohol consumption, we could of sworn we had slipped into some form of a trip."

As I was walking out, I lingered to listen to the Jimi Hendrix-esque 'star spangled banner' and to ponder if I was even still alive.

Thanks STL. Imma work on getting me one of them patches.

Like Francis said, here's another gem from the LEX forum:

"The highpoint of my night:

From the broken pinata i retrieved a plain white t-shirt. Across the front in bold font, it simply states 'STL>BST'."

I'm out. Saving my strength/warmth for the Fiasco.

Also, I can't even begin to describe how great this weekend was. Even the part when I almost threw up. Thanks for being awesome, everybody.

(ps. Did anyone happen to end up with a copper cowbell? I'm short one of the ones I brought. No big deal, just curious.)

Maureen Grady said...

What polo peeps are doing the ride tonight? How long do yall ride? You you end at turtle park or a bar? I'm trying to think logistics for getting myself home (sans car) post-party...

King said...

We ride from turtle park at 11 and ride till ? We leave turtle park and ride to ? Yes a lot ICUs are going and yes YOU should go!

Information said...

A good portion of polo people will be there. Most of us will stay out as long as we're still having fun (sometimes it's 2:30...4:30...7:30).

I (and others) will eventually be making our way back to the area where Jake, Lee, and Cole live (which isn't that far from your aunt's house, I believe).

Stay close to Francis, Rose, Ben, Jake, Cole, Lee and you'll have fun and make it home safely.

Anchovy said...

I 2nd the above Ben comment. Despite it being way shitty/cold out, you just gotta hop on your bike and trust it. Nobody knows where we are going to end up so its hard to plan an exit strategy.
Wait, i just re-read Bens comment. You will have fun, you will make it home. Safely is another story.

I'll be there. Fucking sled club.

I expect Maplewood to be a snowy, slushy mess. Expect to play at the garage.

Ben is pretty much correct. Unless we get a warm spell tomorrow during the day, I think a garage is our best option.

See the link below for how Maplewood looked this evening.

It's going to start warming up tomorrow. If we clear any rink tomorrow or Saturday I have no doubt it will be playable on Sunday. So... Where ya wanna play?
My vote is
1: Mt.P
2: Maplewood
3: lindenwood/tilles/willamore.

I vote maplewood, since we will want the court to be cleared anyway if we play Wednesday night, if not, i'd play at lindenwood or willmore, but i'll stop by maplwood in a bit and see what it looks like.

maplewood and willmore are covered in snow ice and huge puddles, lindenwood has a substantial dry spot but is pretty bad too -Patrick

On the polo court is where I spent most of my days
Chillin out, maxin', relaxin' all cool,
And all playin' some polo outside of the school
When a couple of hockey players, who were up to no good,
Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood,
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin with your auntie and uncle in Den-Air!'

I begged and pleeded with day after day
But she packed my polo bike and sent me away
She gave me a kiss
And then she gave me my ticket
I put my Hood Kicks on and said 'Might as well kick it!'

First class
Yo this is bad
Drinkin King Dewys out of a champaine glass
Is this what the people in Den-Air livin like?
Hmm...this might be alright

Well I,
The plane landed and when I came out
There was a dude,looked like a cop,
standin there with my name out
I ain't tryin to get arrested yet
I just got here
I rode with the quickness
and like lazers dissappeared

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said 'Fresh'
And had mallets in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought 'Nah, forget it - Yo, Court to Den-Air!'

I pulled up to the polo court about Three one Four,
I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo home, smell ya later!'
I looked at my kingdom,
I was finally there!
To ride around on my throne as the prince of Denver!

There's no dry courts. Were planning on playing at the STLCC parking garage when it empties out at 3-4. Any other ideas? Please share.

Anonymous said...

Too late for me, I would have recommended cleaning up whichever court was in the best shape this morning, but I don't know how bad they are/were.. Patricks analysis was cryptic, and without punctuation I might add.

Maybe next Sunday.

Someone start a new post, those bloody socks are starting to smell!
