Matt, I dont think Wednesday is designated newbie night. I thought it was just the first Wed. night of the month was newbie night.

Speaking of which, tomorrow is the first Wednesday of September. Newbie night!

"Anonymous" is more of a name than "Toph."

it started in second grade. only cuz there were always more than one Christopher's in any given class. in my case, there were three(excluding myself). Chris R. Chris M. Chris H. we all had shorter versions of our names given to us and mine has stuck since.

I don't know if I mentioned this to everyone yet but, I need help putting together a polo prize pack for the alley cat on the 30th of this month. I wanted to do two sets of a mallet and ball each.

Polo is very close to becoming a sponsored club. I will give you the details today.

Hey Matt, here are those links:

NAH official rules:
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AZwggtI5salfZHhjNDJyNl8yZm5wN3ZiZzY&hl=en

N&F Supply (coroplast):
http://www.nfsupply.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SUB14

Mcmaster-Carr (UMHW):
http://www.mcmaster.com/#uhmw-polyethylene/=e0ttij

That link is to the list of all the UMHW, most people use the 2-5/8" OD piping, though technically 2-1/2" OD is the maximum allowed in tournament play.

In news from outside the STL polo scene: The worlds ended yesterday with all three of last year's podium teams (including two Midwest teams) eliminated in the double. The new top teams are Vancouver, France, and Seattle.

Also, if you guys are ordering pipe, I have a coupla hundred feet of this laying around:

Ben said...

For the record, I had a blast yesterday. The polo, the boombox, the classical cassette tapes, the throwing stars...Our regular pickup gatherings are more fun than any bike polo world championships could ever dream of being.

Francis said...

Hey Lucky, the pipe you gave me last time you were in town is awesome. I would love to get a few more feet from you. Do you still have my email address/phone number?

-Francis

Scotty said...

Sunday polo with barbecue, beer and boomboxes is the best thing ever.
Except for brownies.
And capybaras.
So can we add either brownies or capybaras to Sunday polo?

Joe Dozer said...

Hey guys, it's Joe. Sounds like polo is going strong and that's great to hear. I've been out with shoulder surgery. I know, everyone's got excuses.
Anchovy, the shirt looks great. I'd like a Large white shirt with 2 arm holes, please.
fyi - I'll be leaving 58% of a bike I found for parts at the Maplewood rink tomorrow afternoon. It's really REALLY nothing special, but I figure you guys can take a look at it Wednesday and somebody can use something off it. Call me if you've got a better idea. 314-971-2032.

Scotty said...

BTW, Matt I'll take two Small shirts in black.

STL BIKE POLO said...

polo trip is still on for the 24th. no reservations are needed. we'll pay when we get there. 2 free nights camping with paid float.

go to comopolo.com for more discussion

SpokedSTL said...

Lucky: I'll take the pipe. Email me at spokedstl@gmail.com and we can work something out.

Francis: Thanks for the links.

Everyone: email me and let me know what size and color of shirt you want so I have an idea when I place the order at the end of the week.

Sounds like everyone wants black and white?

welp, today is supposed to be my triumphant return to polo. it's raining right now, I hope maplewood is slick and there'll be more bruises and wipeouts than seattle style goals. cookie cake for everyone, ben's buying.

also, this:

Lucky said...

Spoked and Francis: I was not offering you 200' of pipe for free. I was pointing you towards another place you can buy some pipe besides McMaster-Carr, should you want to.

Francis said...

Lucky, thats what I assumed. I would still like to buy some from you. Do I have to buy it through fixedcraft? I would rather not get it in 12" lengths since I use 5" mallets and would have to waste 2" of pipe.

Thursday night polo?

Anonymous said...

Those Darlins @ Off Broadway on Friday night!

Philip said...

I'm in for polo Thursday! Great weather today.

Anonymous said...

Hey. Sunday looks gloomy. Anyone want to play Friday night or Saturday day? -Jake-

Lucky said...

Yeah, Fixcraft is the exclusive distributor. Unless you're coming up here or I'm going down there in the next little while and it would be easy to just hand you some.

You can use the extra two inches of pipe as a trophy stand for all the game balls you're given after scoring the tournament-winning goal.

Information said...

"Tournament winning goals" is too much of a guarantee.

It's "guaranteed game-winning goals!"

Anonymous said...

ITS SUNDAY! It's also too wet to play polo... Bummer. See everyone wednesday.

anybody interested in cheap, good Mtn bikes i got 2, $50 each. Both good candidates to be turned into a polo bike. I can help do this also for the new people. Rigid fork hardtails are the best for newbies. Text me at 314-623-6907
Anchovy

Jon Rinehart said...

Yo anchovy, are you saying they come with ridged forks? Because if not I will give mine away.

Anonymous said...

FLOAT TRIP!!!!

Anchovy said...

Yes they have rigid forks. You dont want one of these bikes do you?

Jon Rinehart said...

@anchovy. No. But if anyone needs a rigid 26" fork let me know.

SpokedSTL said...

what is the plan for the float?
when are we leaving?
Where are we meeting up?
when will we be back?
How much is it?
We are camping right? Where?

STL BIKE POLO said...

some people are leaving friday night. some saturday morning. there really isn't anything set in stone.

from what i can tell on the website it is about 20 bucks per person and they give you two free nights of camping. we'd be back sunday morning. unless you wanna drive back saturday night. then you'd be home saturday night.

this is highly unorganized, exactly the way we like to do stuff. (not sarcastic, i really mean it)

-Trent

Information said...

Sherrid should come.

Lee said...

Ok, Brass Tacks.

Who is driving to the camping/float trip?

When is Columbia getting there?

I don't care when we leave but definitely want to carpool.

-Lee

Rose said...

Francis and I are leaving Saturday morning. If needed, I can take at least one or two other people, maybe three (i might have another passenger already/depends on how snuggly you kids feel like getting).

SpokedSTL said...

I'm in.

I'm couriering for South Grand Delivered until 6 tomorrow night. I can leave after that or in the morning. My car has been smoking so I can't drive.

STL BIKE POLO said...

ALERT! ALERT!

This NRO place is farther away than originally discussed. Sorry to confuse everyone. It is still gonna be fun. Just don't worry about it.

Toph I dono if I said it but I agree. I hope your healing well. The trick to surviving the injury is to take a lot of pks.

Is anyone playing polo today (Sunday)? Or are you all too beat to death from partying?
-Jake-

Information said...

Matt has asked me to make a pair of mallets for his alleycat this weekend. Does anyone have a pair of nice ski poles that I could use? Matt will pay for them.

If you have ski poles and can bring them Wednesday, that would be awesome.

Jon Rinehart said...

I do I do! There paper thin so I have no use for them. I will bring them Wednesday.

Anonymous said...
