Remember When It Was Raining?

Yesterday, I think I heard that it had rained 9-days-straight.

St. Louis was temporarily Seattle.

But all of that has changed.

Today it is dry and the weather is perfect for some Wednesday night polo.

So assemble your bike, grab your gear, and wear your football pads. Tonight, WE'RE PLAYING POLO.

Maplewood Rink (Manchester and Big Bend)
6 PM.
Bring a light (one of mine burned out).
Bring fun things.

Leave your apologies at home.

I'm sick but I'm in. I need ski poles.

TOPH! said...

i will bring a light. a freewheel attached to bike. and a ski polo for King. would you like a mallet as well sir? i have those. just dont puke on me.

Ben said...

Jake needs strong poles. His last mallet didn't survive it's first game.

COACH said...

Tell that Ross guy to show up. I haven't seen him play polo since the Lock-In.

toph said...

your mom needs strong poles.
-my pole is LOOK silver one. unless you want one forged by The Orchish in the deep cores of Mt.Doom, that will have to do. i will pass the message on to Master Ross and see if he is brave enough to battle in the ranks of STLBIKEPOLO.

i got 2 poles left. One scott and one other brand i cant remember. $10 each if anybody wants em. These are my last 2 i have. I havent found any in months.
I kinda wanna bring my lil grill tonight. Anybody into that. Also, my 2 cents is i dont like maplewood's slickness. I wish we could set up at Lindenwood. But thats just my 2cents and if everybody loves it and wants to play there then i understand and will concede.

Unknown said...

I prefer L-wood as well. Slickness, size, and distance from home keep me from enjoying Maplewood.

Grilling out sounds awesome. I can get tofu pups and buns.

i hate maplewood. i love lindenwood. i also love bbq grills.

i'd rather play at lwood and surrender the extra two hours we lose to the earths rotation.

Anchovy said...

Ooohh. I wonder what strange ill fitting bike Toph will have put a freewheel on. I wanna say that 650c Fuji, but that seems too obvious. Im stoked you are not fixed Toph, whatever bike you are on.

Ben said...

Lights are way easier to set up and power at Maplewood.

I also enjoy skidding on the slick surface and the slow rate at which our mallets wear down at Maplewood.

Maplewood will always get my vote when it comes to night polo.

My one cent.

(oh yeah, that ranger at Lucky's birthday said we need some permit/permission to use the generator ((also, dragging the generator is no fun)) free electric at Maplewood FTW)

Unknown said...

Free electric is nice. But I can ride to Lindenwood, there is water and bathrooms, and once yer used to the lights you can kinda play after sundown.

Which is at almost 8 these days, btw.

Ben said...

I'll pick you up, Lucky.

Now we can play til 10.

Unknown said...

Check your radar. Looks like we're going to get rained off of whatever court we play on between 8-9.

My polo bike is in pieces right now. Text me before you leave - I might not be done sanding, painting, and re-assembling it yet.

Nothing as fancy as Nick's paint job. Sorry.

Ben said...

I'll be at your place around 5:40. I'll shoot you a text when I'm on my way.

Registration just opened for the North Americans, just 6 hours away in Madison, WI. First come, first served open registration tournament capped at 96 teams. Three days. June 16, 17, 18.

Shall we just pre-register 3 teams and sort out who's on 'em later?

Unknown said...

It's 30 per player plus more if you want a t-shirt, bag, cap, coffee beans, or other stuff. You get 3 days of polo on 9 (3 of which are always pick-up) courts plus breakfast every day for that money.

Non-refundable, so if we register 3 teams we either bring 9 people or we loose money.

You will play more polo with more people from more places at this event than you ever have before or will again. It's the thing to do if you love polo.

Lucky,
King Shin Beef is in.

We need to leave some extra space in the car for the drive home. The trophy could be pretty big.

If we register 3 teams, we can always sell the extra team on the open market. I imagine it could fetch a pretty high penny if there are teams that really want to play and they are capped.

Beef said...

Lucky,

How do we register? Is there a way to do it without going on LOBP?

Information said...

ATTENTION:

King Shin Beef has registered and paid for their spot in the North American Championships.

Prepare to witness history.

Ben said...

North Americans are in July. Not June like Grandpa stated earlier.

Unknown said...

Oops. What're our other teams? I'm committed to going, and hope to be playing even stronger by then (I feel like I'm just about to break this plateau I've been on, thanks to all you folks). Hopefully well enough that I wouldn't let down Nick or Chovy should either want to team up with me.

Do any other StL-ers know their schedules that far ahead?

Unknown said...

Hey dudes... What are the strongest brand Ski Poles to get? im following Tophs lead and getting a bundloe from amazon.

Rain polo rocked!

Friday polo please!

toph said...

scott. are the best. dont buy the wildcat ones. there really cheap but they suck. azonic is good. scotts end up being about still pretty cheap though. they end up being about $10 each.

Unknown said...

Scott series 3 or 4. Kerma seem to always be good.

You know, there's a thread for this on that website you all hate.

Ben said...

I went over to the website that we all hate to get the link to a video I needed. The 3 minutes I spent there infected me with unhealthy levels of untold stupidity.

I need a shower after typing the address into my browser.

Bad news #1 no ski poles. Sorry. Apparently all the used places don't carry them during the summer. So sadly I am bringing no ski poles home from Colorado.

Bad news #2 Lucky, I'm not going to be home until really late and need both a new tire and new tube so I'm not going to be able to make it to MN. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Good news #1 I am FOR SURE going to madison. And I can even drive. And if need be, I'll just jump on another team if i dont fit into the stl team scheme. But I am for sure going.

Good news #2 I will not be gone for a while so count me in for any polo that will be played in the near future (as soon as I get a new tire and tube of course)

crybaby toph said...

evan. i have a tire you can have. i can bring it to polo whenever. i have to leave early sunday. LOST season finale. hey Ben, can i buy some black HDPE off you? the orange is too thick and heavy. wahh wahh. boohoo.

Ben said...

I don't have any black...I used all of it (I didn't have that much to begin with).

Anonymous said...

please lets play polo friday, i'll bring some banana bread beer. I can't make it on sunday. -Patrick

Anchovy said...

TOPH-i got a drill bit that lets you cut out the inner material on the orange heads ( i agree its heavy). It just kinda grinds it away. It lightens it up tons. You can use it. I can bring it on a drill on Fri or Sunday.

im just gonna throw this out there. Colin randomly called me last night asking about a Newbey Tourney some time around Nats. Anybody know anything about that? Or Colins whereabouts? Be at lindenwood around five.

Ben said...

Colin quit polo and scored an undersized GT mountain bike for free.

I think he skipped town with his bike.

Props to him.

Bloomington is holding a young guns tournament in the middle of June.
