Sunday Sunday Sunday

A little bird told me that some Como polo shredders will be in the Lou on Sunday. Where do we want to play? Will anyone be wearing tights? These questions and more will be answered.

Dammit! I'm playing. Fuck it. It doesn't hurt that bad. It could be worse. I could be wearing tights

Beef said...

Anyone wearing tights deserves to have their bones permanently broken.

Liz said...

what if i wear tights and skirt?

Tim D. said...

I think we're basically all coming. Four of us were already planning on it, so everyone else just said fuck it, we're going to STL, too. See you all this weekend!

Unknown said...

What're StL's NAs plans? We've got the KingShinBeef, Trent and Nick are both playing on teams with CoMO guys,Evan and I are looking for a third.

Hotels near the courts are 50-70 a night right now. The 70/night ones have pools. Are we all going up in T's van? Separate cars? Leaving Thursday, coming back Monday? Sunday night? Does anyone have any friends in Mad-town we can stay with?

Jake - Do what your doctor sez about healing time, PT and all that stuff. You don't want to be arthritic and bent at 30.

zach-bloomington said...

hehe, "the Lou".

Ben said...

Jake - keep healing. No polo. Seriously. Two more weeks. We need you completely healed. Don't rush it.

Sincerely,
Dad

Liz - girls can wear tights.

nick said...

Any interested in road tripping up to Bloomington Saturday to watch our team take the championship?

zach-bloomington said...

Bloomington's a-squad are all playing on separate teams, so you very well may be right.

Then again I've never seen Ft.Wayne, Louisville or Nashville play, so they could be darkhorses.

Polite, Dignified Gentleman #1 said...

They may be dark horses, but we have dark hearts.

There's a celebration in the development stages that will secure STL's place as "hardest partiers" this weekend. I don't want to give anything else away.

Anonymous said...

You haven't seen Francis shred. He is scary good.

COACH said...

Francis had been following the STL training regimine. He has been training with the best.

It's about to get real.

Ben said...

Francis is pulling an all-nighter the night before the tournament!! By the time he gets to Bloomington, he'll be 12 hours deep in partying! St. Louis with a partying headstart?? That party trophy already has "St. Louis" carved on it.

Kayce said...

Sadly I dont have the dollars for a trip up to madison. I am however pretty pumped for sunday. Is there anyplace we can play multiple games at the same time?

Unknown said...

Kayce: If you beg and plead the Madison kids for a house to crash in, or if you can get into a room with your old Philly-mates, you may be able to take some of the cost out of going to NAs.

There really isn't a multi-court set up in St Louis. If there's a lot of people and we play at L-wood. We can spin a group off to W-moore or Tilles.

Anchovy said...

Sorry if this is a double post..
Nice monocog on clist for $175obo.
Would make rad polo bike

Ben said...

Big Tides and STL Seal shirts?

MONOCOG said...

nick said...

which seal, goons or cuddlers?

Ben said...

Cuddlers. The Goons seal was a joke about this reputation we've been given.

nick said...

Julia,

Can you send me their contact info, I will try and coordinate the seal shirts. Ben, can I get this in a format they will be able to use?

King said...

Interjection: Make the goons and the Cuddlers...

I hate it, you guys are rite... no fun for me for at least two weeks. poop.

Kayce: Lindenwood has the rink and 2x Tennis courts. If you have cones and somthing to stop the ball going under the fence your in buisness. Also Tilles has a rink and 2x courts... Just an idea (a great one)

Celebration/Party supplies are being gathered.

Bloomington, here we come!

Floppy said...

So amidst all this babble about pete wearing tights and Liz showing us her who ha, I cannot find a location for Sunday play. Where is it going to be boys? Personally my vote is for Lindenwood but this was just where I first saw bike hockey-i mean polo-played well.

Anonymous said...

Floppy, was Lindenwood also the first place you had a newbie teammate spectacularly crash into you?
i vote for Lindenwood, with bathrooms and shade its my favorite place for polo party. -Patrick

COACH said...

Lindenwood was the first place where Floppy wanted to murder a newbie teammate.

POLO POLO POLO!!!!!

Floppy said...

MWBP Champeenship V was my first tourney. And we did not take DFL!

Toph A. Loaf said...

lindenwood. 2pm sunday. this is happening, and it will be amazing.

Anchovy said...

We could bbq also if you guys are up for it. I can bring a grill. Lindenwood is a good spot. If we get too many people we can bleed over to Willmore park (5 minutes away).

King said...

You guys should play on the tennis courts if there's way too many ppl. Keep it cozy. We seem to forget that other clubs play all on all sorts of courts. Most without any type of wall /boards. Playing on a different surface can only help. Frustration leads to adaptation. Adaptation wins games. Just my broken ass 2 cents.

I hate being hurt. I love polo

Anonymous said...

on a whim, i bought 2 bottles of Stone Ruination IPA curry mustard grilling sauce while in Dayton last weekend. if it tastes anything like the beer its made from, it could be nice alternative to bbq. -Patrick

Unknown said...

I will bring eggplant for the curry mustard grilling sauce bbq at Lindenwood. I will also bring my brand new polo rig, complete with St Louis-style BMX front end. Thanks, Jake! It took forever to build this thing up, I hope it lasts a while.

Whats the word on grilling? If its a yes Im gonna bring some vegan burgers.

Anonymous said...

definitely bring those veggie burgers! thanks to a sacrifice of the pink huffy, the Giant is back, i just made a new mallet and I am super excited for polo party today! -Patrick

Althoas said...

Dear Patrick,
We are sorry to inform you the HUFFY is not worthy of a sacrifice. This is in no way an appeal to the Polo Gods. We are in fact pretty upset at your attempt to substitute a worthy sacrifice with a HUFFY. Your play will subsequently, suffer unless you immedeatly revoke your insufficent gesture with a blood sacrifice....

anchovy said...

yes there will be a grill.

Toph A. Loaf said...

yo dudes. if anyone has a drill. Ben, Anchovy, Nick. Please bring it. and a screw to lock down my new mallet. that would be awesome.

I really wish there was a picture of that too. What a great weekend.

Zach, I still owe you five dollars. It'll get to you somehow. Thanks for being awesome.

Lee said...

Dignified Gentlemen indeed! This club is full of SHREDDERS!!!

Ben said...

When you train with shredders, you soon find yourself becoming a shredder.

We need to start a STL Bike Polo boot camp where people pay to train with us for a week. Unfortunately for them, we can't promise them a peaceful rose garden.

(insert offensive poster here)

nick said...

My polo boot camp has started...

I'm attempting to bring my game to that next level. Good luck to you all...

Ben said...

Jake and Cole need to get Muscle Beach set up in their front yard. We need polo weight training.

Nick - I need some pushing in these final weeks leading up to North Americans. I'm feeling a little burnt out. I need help being all that I can be. We can push each other!

Iron sharpening iron!

Unknown said...

I will train with you! Specific skills I want to work on in drills (as opposed to scrimmage):

Receiving passes under the bottom bracket.

Give and go passing around oncoming opponants.

Ball handling at speed.

Ben said...

I'd be down for non-pickup practice on non-polo days...ie. tonight.

Anytime someone wants to practice, send out a text to a few people. I know I'd be down most nights.

Lucky said...

We need lots of balls. Basketball players have a whole rack full when they practice freethrows.

I only have one red ball left in my posession.

And water, we will need lots of water if we're going to practice tonight.

Ben said...

I, stupidly, left both of my Franklin reds in Bloomington.

We don't have to practice tonight. I was just saying that I'd be down almost any non-pickup day/night.

Bruce Lee said...

There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there. You must go beyond them.

zach-bloomington said...

"STL Bootcamp". I was actually thinking about this exact idea this weekend and may (or not) have mentioned it to Francis. Basically i want to come train with you guys the week before NA's. If there was a few days in a row when y'all would be playing i (and my team) would make the trek and stay for a bit. Throw the COMO boys in the mix and that's some quality training time.

Ben, I'll make sure you get yr balls back ;)

crpc6f@umsl.edu said...

impromptu freindlies again? sounds awesome.

Toph A. Loaf said...

that was weird. last comment was toph by the way.

Information said...

If you come to boot camp, there's no puking allowed on our rinks.

There will be cuddling.
There will be crashes.
There will be blood (not the movie).
There will be lazers.
There will be the toughest polo you've ever played.

STL Boot Camp: Abandon all hope, ye who enter.

Toph A. Loaf said...

hey MVP, since you have soooo many wheels now. you wanna sell me that B-43 front? if you wanna keep it to look at that's cool too.

Other MVP said...

I'll sell you a track frame to go along with the wheel.

Information said...

Why don't you just give me $100, and we can skip the process of you buying that wheel and selling it back to me a month later.

Toph A. Loaf said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Toph A. Loaf said...

No. no ben you got it all wrong. heres how it goes. I buy the wheel for $800 dollars impulsively. then i sell it to my stoner friend so he can build a delorian time machine. he breaks it, then sells it back to ANCHOVY for $10 6 months later. then we go back in time and do it all again!

Ben said...

Apparently, the finals of ESPI5 will be 30 minutes of polo. They're going to time rather than to 5 goals in all of the rounds (Pete said Midwests was the same). If North Americans do this, it's time to start hill climbing again. Endurance training (is necessary) FTW!

Toph A. Loaf said...

That just means King Shin Beef will have to beat everyone 10-0. No problem right? even further and were gonna end up with a basketball score. NBA, not college. Example 100-0.

sebastian said...

When are you guys playing next?

Ben said...

Tonight. Wednesdays and Sundays.

Kayce(who might show up) said...

Where at tonight?

Be at Maplewood at 6. Prepare to sweat. Boot camp starts tonight!

Bring a light if you have one.

Kayce said...

I'll be there, colin wont.

COACH said...

Bring a rock-hard red ball too.

anchovy said...

im out, but i got a red or 2 in my truck bed, i know i got at least one if you need it. Just come by and grab it out of the bed, no need to knock.
My polo is your polo.

PS... TIM A (or anybody). do you know where to get hard franklin reds in STL?

Tim A said...

I've scoured several Sports Authorities and Total Hockeys when I'm in town, but all I can find is liquid-filled reds or orange non-liquid filled Franklins. The AGS balls can be drilled and drained, though.

Ben said...

I think liquid-filled reds that have been drilled are better than standard reds. They seem heavier and harder after drilling.

Seriously.

"They're going to time rather than to 5 goals in all of the rounds (Pete said Midwests was the same)."

In MPLS, this was only the Swiss rounds. The double elim. on Sunday was first to five or time as normal.

Sebastian Frith said...

where and when tomorrow?

Toph A. Loaf said...

two o clock. lindenwood.

Toph A. Loaf said...

BTW francis, my knee is fine. thanks for asking. I was just bummed out cuz i hit the exact same spot that was still healing.

I'm still amazed every time i play, on sweaty sundays wednsdays and any other day of the week we should decide to gather, how good this club is. a good example is Ben and I.

Beef and Toph started playing polo at literally the EXACT same time and within a month he had already gotten himself a bike and was off to shred city. I watched Ben quickly ascend the ranks of Bike Polo and establish himself within a few months as a regular shredder. I used to sit on the sidelines or lean on the goal after letting one in and wonder. "How is this possible? We should be at the same level." That was only my youthful frustration that i have since put aside. A new day is dawing for Toph A. Loaf. Brought on by pain, blood, frustration and maybe even a little internal analyzation. Any other team may have given up on prospects like myself but alas, here i am at my one year aniversery. on the cusp of turning things around.

Evan Ben and Francis(who is another story entirely) solidified last weekend how magical Saint Louis Bike Polo really is. Winning tournaments and bringing home Golden balls to show us all what we should aspire to be. Stl bike polo is the best. No matter who's team, i am honored to be on the court. We yell at each other, we hit each other, we even hurt each other sometimes. It only makes this little club a little bit stronger. Unified by one common goal Stl bike polo will CONTINUE blaze a fiery path to victory.

Rose said...

Hey Colin or Kayce, can one of you bring my gloves next time you come to polo? Thanks!

I'm bringing some cupcakes today, too.

Unknown said...

Not for me today. Just a little mallet head work left to do, then I'm done with that for the rest of the summer.

It's supposed to be hella-nice this week, I would like to play and practice a few times. Monday, Wednesday, Friday?

Went to the Fiasco last night on the polo bike. Figured it was a good way to get used to its handling. Every time I was straining to get up a huge hill or swerving in and out of parked cars I kept yelling "I'm training!" into the night.

Anchovy said...

im just gonna throw this out there now. is anyone is down to play tuesday at lindenwood? around lets say 6? that would mean back to back nights for some of us. im excited to get my game in shape. and excited for more polo. it looks like it might cool off this week. can we make this happen?

Lee said...

I'm sorry I missed to today, float trips are tiring. It's good endurance training.

I'm in for Monday and Wednesday for sure.

Lets shred bike polo!

Toph A. Loaf said...

its cool. i have class till 9:30 mon and wed. would you be down to play tuesday. that would give us dudes who played yesterday a break. and then i can play. it might seem self centered but it kind of makes sense. if not then i shall see you sunday.

Ben said...

I'd play tonight if enough people are down.

Toph A. Loaf said...

can you play tuesday?

Anchovy said...

I could tues. Lindenwood.

Francis said...

I can't play tonight, I can Tuesday and Wednesday. If we play Tuesday I doubt we would get enough to play Wednesday, so maybe we should just play on the day that the most people can come.

Rose said...

I can't play tonight or Tuesday, but Wednesday is good.

Ben said...

Sounds like no polo tonight. I'll be training by myself (hill climbs!).

I'd rather not play Tuesday and stay on the regular Wednesday/Sunday schedule for fear that Tuesday night polo would potentially prevent people from showing on Wednesday. (aka: what Francis said)

Evannn said...

I can't play till Wednesday. I'll hopefully have a new tire by then (shredded another yesterday) but If the weather is nice this week I'd be down to play Friday evening. I know that's a ways away, but I just wanted to put that out there.

Toph A. Loaf said...

if we can get six on tuesday i can play. i'm definitely out on wed. i have a project due. some other people have vocalized they would be willing to play on tuesday. francis, myself and anchovy. the time to train is now. the hour is upon us. if anyone is interested in playing some POLO.
