BM in CoMO

This Saturday morning, as many of us as can go are heading to Columbia, MO for a "bench minor" style bike hockey game. Two teams of ten, two half-hour periods, on-the-fly line changes, most points wins. Raging Kegger to follow. Please no fireworks.

Let's use this thread to trash talk CoMO and work out our ride sharing.

I've got a 3-bike rack that will fit on most cars if anyone needs to borrow it. I need a ride.

Will anyone be coming back to St Louis Saturday night? Usually we end up doing it that way. I don't mind spending the night in CoMO this time around.

Anchovy said...

I can drive. I dont know if i will come back that night or not. Probably stay the night somewhere. We can fit almost all the bikes in my truck. I dont think we got ten. Jake said no on Sunday right?
Ben said he isnt going if Lee isnt going.
Lee i dont think is going, but feel free to chime in and state yes or no.
Nick is out.
Francis-can you get off or is it too short notice?
Evan-?
so how many we got?
Just taking a tally here.

No fireworks?!

I say we trash talk Lucky and his fun-hating ideas!

I might go. (big maybe at this point)

If I go, I can't stay. (too busy, the reason for the
big maybe)

If I go, I won't have fireworks. Those are only for partying in cities with reasonable police officers.

Ben, you should go regardless of what other people's plans are. Support the club, man.

This will be fun. I wish the timing was better for a better turnout.

I'm going. I'm Manager (dictator).

This one time, at friendlies in CoMO, someone lit off fireworks at the afterparty and got the homeowner a pretty expensive ticket/summons.

I'm in.
Anchovy's in.
Colin and Kacey said they were in (and that they could haul bikes in their pick-up, too.)
Ben said he was in and could drive.
Jake said no.
Nick said no.
Francis said probably.
I can't remember what Toph said, cos he says so much.

So that's 5 yeas and a probably. Plus a coupla of Bloomington kids.

If we don't make 10 we'll just take Tim A and Floppy from the CoMO side. They grew up around the Lou anyway.

Toph A. Loaf said...

a man of few words. but somehow many posts...
Toph No Go CoMo.

"BM in COMO"

I can't believe you guys are coming all the way here to take a shit! We must have golden toilets funded by the university.

hellochris said...

i'm a proponent of doing two of these matches, the second happening the weekend after the first, this time in st. louis. then everybody gets to do it once, and some of us twice.

does that sound reasonable?

Lucky said...

I'm a proponent of you hosting all-day friendlies with Lawrence, KC, CoMO, StL, and Bloomington, and anyone else in a six hour circle of highways, with this little one hour distraction as the last game before the party.

Does that sound reasonable to you?

Lee said...

My weekends are booked through labor day. This weekend its a family reunion. Try to have fun without me!

that sounds pretty awesome, lucky. i'll put the word out there.

hellochris said...

i'll see you guys (those that can attend) this weekend. i'd still like to pick a good date for a straight up como vs. stl bench match, with fair notice i will amtrak down from chicago for it.

Lucky said...

I'll do the same. I suggest that we have a "draft" of the friendlies attendies before the big game. It will probably still largely be StL vs CoMO with some MO/KS/IN thrown in. Ben is a MGR for one team, pick a CoMO dude or dudette for the other.

What time do frienlies start? What time do you want to start the Big Game? 12 and 6? 11 and 7?

Ben said...

I agree with Lucky. Since STL can't field a full team (even with Bloomington free agents), we should have a draft or mix mallets and divide 20-30 people into two teams.

Anonymous said...

mixing mallets is dumb for this. pick teams playground style.

Ben said...

Ah, the cruel playground.

VEHICLE NEWS: I have my (ex)girlfriend's car for the next 2 weeks. Its a mazda 4 door. Id much rather drive that with a rack on back then my truck (or not have to drive if i can get away with that). Just letting everyone know.
PS, Francis, all lights are go for a wild zero viewing at my place. Sometime in the next 2 weeks is optimum.

Francis said...

Awesome, we'll have to talk to Rose and Evan about it. I am going to go to como this weekend, but I need a ride. With me and the Bloomington kids don't we already have 8? Can't we persuade 2 more people? Maybe Bloomington can bring more.

Anonymous said...

ya'll better pick team colors. this will turn into a clusterfuck quickly if there aren't defined teams

Lucky said...

Ok fine. Every one bring one white and one colored t-shirt to the event. After teams are picked (playground style - max humiliation) y'all can suit up.

Or you could just memorize the names of the 2-4 people on your team who aren't from your town, but you've probably met before anyway.

Rose said...

I can't go to CoMO.

Super excited about Wild Zero, though.

Anchovy said...

Polo tonight. Maplewood court. 6-10. I think Mark will be taking pics again. Check out my FB profile to view last Sunday's pics. (only a few but they are cool).

1. I guess STL will talk about the ride situation this eve at polo.
2. Hey COMO. Can i sleep over on Sat night? anybody got a floor/couch? If i drive i will most likely have 2-3 more dudes with me.

Lucky said...

Looks like three cars. You, Ben, and Colin. Colin and Kacey can take most if not all of the bikes in their pick up. Ben can fit 3 others and you can fit 3 others. That's 10 seats for 6 people. If we need to, my rack will fit on your car no problem. I think we're all planning on spending the night Saturday.

Bloomington: If you can get here early enough Saturday morning or Friday night, we can drive you the rest of the way.

Ben said...

I encourage Bloomington to caravan with us...Not ride with us. I say this because I may or may not spend the night in CoMo.

Part of me wants to hang out in CoMo, and part of me wants to be in attendance for Bri-Guy's art show.

Evannn said...

I'm out for this weekend. Too much going on. And I wont be there tonight either. Hopefully I'll make on Sunday

Anonymous said...

I might be the only one from btown showing up. There's a road crit in Indy that some of our guys are participating in. I'll prolly show up in STL on friday night and hopefully stay saturday in COMO.

Broke frame update:
I thought the rear end was awfully "soupy" feeling last time we played (i thought i snapped my axle) Cracked clean through at the rear drive side dropout. Sad. RIP Langster.
Time to dust off ye olde Kona.

Ben said...

That bike lasted a lot longer than I expected. The day you showed up with it I though, "He's going to break that thing before he goes home tonight."

I'm impressed at how well it withstood you playing polo on it.

R.I.P. Langster.

Ps. I'm in for polo tonight. I will be hamming it up for Mark's camera.

30-FOOT SIDEWAYS SKIDS FTW!

Lucky said...

Dawn, the reporter from whatever network has scheduled filming for next Wednesday evening, August 18th at the Maplewood courts starting around 7pm.

Please be there early and be prepared to be on camera. Waivers, interviews, and attempts to bleep out our cursing to follow.

Ben said...

I'm wearing my prom outfit to polo!

Gotta look good for TV ;)

nick said...

The girl will be home this weekend. She'll be home Sat. thru Tues.

Ben said...

The trip to CoMo is canceled. Our massive polo caravan dwindled to a measly four people.

I guess CoMo wins the first battle in the Bench Minor war.

Anchovy said...

COMO-So Kayce and Collin are out. That leaves Lucky, Ben, Francis and myself. Last night at polo we agreed, (minus lucky, he wasn't there), that we should hold off on coming up to Como this weekend. Maybe next weekend we come up or maybe we can host a bench minor here. It's just bad timing I guess. Alot of stuff in stl going on this weekend (plus I broke my bike). sorry guys.
Anchovy

Lucky said...

Poop. No one wants to go just for friendlies and a party? KC and Lawrence wil be there...

Anchovy said...

I would if my bike wasn't broke. I rode the kona last night and it felt like a ford f350 (mtn tires, bad gearing). I can switch all the parts over, but I'm not that into a brand new bike and then traveling to try it out, ya know? Like if something is wrong on it I can't readily fix it. I'm kinda on the fence actually. If I get some time Friday to fix it and ride it, then I might go. Or if I get the other bike welded.

well would next weekend in stl work? or we could plan something further down the road..

For me, next weekend works good. I got a big open apartment that weekend that people can stay at, lots of space, no cats and cold ac.

Nick K. said...

Bunch of baby back bitches...

We would have crushed you anyway!!! Set a date, guys. This shouldn't be something that people can or can't make based on other plans. People should push aside their other plans FOR this.

STL/COMO should be tight! THIS IS NOT TIGHT! THIS IS like when you go to lunch with an old friend because you don't have time to actually be their friend.

nick said...

I think that is rookie Nick. Not me.

Ben said...

I like Rookie Nick more and more each day. He should quit CoMo and move to STL.

Tim D. said...

Kruse, you can't even play! I may be up for next weekend, but I really don't feel like driving, and I always get stuck with driving.

zach-bloomington said...

Booooooo! I just got work off and was really looking forward to this. Though I prolly wouldn've been the only one from Indiana.

If anyone still wants to get their polo on i hear there's a beaver-free tourney going on up in MKE the same weekend.

(not so) rookie nick said...

Sorry, I can not come to STL full time. I fear the permanence of your party lifestyle. The incessant fire works, the barrel/computer throwing, the constant blaring of only the finest mix tapes, the constant flow of mountain dew. Moving to STL would leave me a battered, broken, washed up excuse of a man. People would look at me, point and whisper about how I had a future but peaked too early.

I just don't have it in me. I bow to your ways and hope to learn from them but you just can't dive into such madness.

Someone find me a god damn polo bike.

Lucky said...

I just pulled a shitty, 18" Giant Boulder with a pimp-ass red flake paint job from a meter in front of my shop. Needs a saddle and a rear wheel. Replace the cranks/bb and save 2 pounds. I'll throw it over your fence tonight.
