SUNDAY POLO!

Sunday polo is happening at Mt. Pleasant Park at 2pm. The weather will be amazing. Bring some food and drinks and fun. Our dear friend Evan will be in attendance. It's sure to be a great afternoon.

Also, we are going to do a small collection for a deposit on a skating rink for a party. If you are interested in donating a little cash to help us secure our party place for a future shindig, please bring a little dough on Sunday. Anything you have to donate will be appreciated, recorded, and repaid.

See you Sunday!

PS - Thanks for Matt for organizing an awesome alley cat!

What is the deal with the stl bike polo t-shirts? How would i get one?

Thanks,

Ooooshtober... anyone want to go?

I was thinking of hitting Oooshtober, definitely.

Lee said...

Hey Matt,

Can you make the new polo shirts without the logos on the sleeve and back? I'm only interested if they just have Chovy's design on the front.

-Lee

Philip said...

I've been thinking about going to ooooshtober and or the boooondoggle. STL should represent.

Lee: The shirts are already printed, sorry. The sponsorship logos help pay for the shirts.

Nick: I am picking them up tomorrow and bringing them to polo. They will cost polo folks $13.

I'm not sure I'll be able to come to polo tonight, but if anyone has extra brakes they want to sell me for that Bianchi can you bring them?

Jon Rinehart said...

Francis, I will bring my extra v brakes. Do you need a cable, housing, or lever?

Philip said...

Does anyone have extra coroplast I could buy? If not I'm going to get a sheet this week if anyone wants some let me know.

Ben said...

I don't have any. Toph may have some used sheets. If not, go to a sign shop, tell them what you're looking for and why, and ask if they have any scraps that they could give/sell you.

Anonymous said...

Phil: go to gas stations and ask for old signage. That or cut down a campain or real estate sign. Or go to a sign shop and ask for scrap pieces.

Anchovy said...

A. Coroplast is available at Artmart in big sheets. Its not expensive and its easy to get. It last forever (as long as you dont spray paint it)
B. Matt-I second the emotion of no logos on polo t shirts (if possible). The white shirt on the spokedstl store site doesn't mention logos, is that the case? No logos on the white?

SpokedSTL said...

They all have logos. Sorry dudes. I'm hoping to pick them up today. If so I will bring them to polo.

I didn't mean to turn anyone off with the logo stuff. It was strictly price thing. I wanted to stay local with the printing to make reprints easier and to make sure that we got a quality product opposed to sending them off the bullshitshirts.com and getting back some half-assed shit. Just trying to do the best I can here. I'm volunteering my time and fronting all of the money so I wanted to put the SpokedSTL logo on the shirts. I got a pretty good discount for putting Light-house's logo on there since they printed the shirts.

Also, I'm talking to Fixcraft and Milwaukee Bikes about lock-in sponsorships.

Lee said...

Matt,

You're doing fine. My advice is to focus more on playing polo and less on securing sponsorships (which we don't need, look how well we've done without them). Also remember to ask your club for advice when you find yourself in a quandary, as we might know a cheap screen printer, or where to buy the best $10 polo gloves.

-Lee

Anchovy said...

I built up a spare polo bike and will bring it for any new people.

Anonymous said...

Matt. I agree your killing it. However I feel Sponsors will be great. Who doesn't want free shit for doing what we are already doing?!?

Information said...

Tonight after polo, Baby Jon was skitching on the FJ Cruiser down Big Bend.

We topped 40mph.

We even passed a cop that seemed to appreciate what we were doing enough to not stop us.

Training.

SpokedSTL said...

Fixcraft has confirmed as a sponsor.

Anonymous said...

Hey guys,

I know that some of you were considering coming to Lawrence on the 22nd and 23rd of this month.

They're looking to get details hammered down on how many to expect, so if you want to bring some people you should figure out who.

Bound to be fun. You're bailing on Milwaukee so make it happen!

-Nick k.

Get enough sponsors to go to Europe next summer.. :-)

Anonymous said...

If a city was worth visiting, it would've been established within a 4-hour driving radius of STL.

Anonymous said...

Best part of Lawrence is 4 hrs and 46 min. east.

Lee said...

I think I'd rather go to Milwaukee. If there are two other STL shredders that want to go, I'd strongly consider it.

-Lee

Jon Rinehart said...

I might be in for the Lawrence tournament. If I can find two fine people to be on a team with.

St Louis to Milwaukee: 6 1/2 hours.

That's more than four, right?

Philip said...

I'm looking for a 20t freewheel if anyone has one they want to sell or knows of a bike shop that might have one in stock. Thought I'd check before I order online.

Anonymous said...

Seriously guys... buck the fuck up and come to something.

STL is a needed presence in the community at large. Keep the fools in check. Come make some beautiful, squeaky noise.

MKE or Lawrence. The world needs you.

-NK

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, also MKE has no tournament entrance fee. All you have to do is buy a beer at this particular bar that everyone is going to be at anyway, and your fee is waived.

Join the LU Bike Co-Op for our first ever Bike Week!

Starting Monday, October 24th through Friday, October 28th. Every night/day we will have events happening on campus that will all be oriented toward encouraging the growth of the biking community on campus.

Monday 6-9:30PM: Shop Meet & Greet. Stop by the Bike Co-Op in the Butler Loft and get your bike serviced, eat some free grub, and hang out.

Tuesday 9-???: Bike Polo. Meet us behind Evan's Commons for a night of Bike Polo. We will provide all gear and everyone is welcome to join.

Wednesday @ 10PM: VBC Ride. A VBC ride is a 'night' ride where we cruise around St. Charles aimlessly at a nice casual pace. Feel free to join us for any amount of time on the ride.

Thursday @ 9PM: The Bike Week Alley Cat. An Alley Cat race is a race where one need not speed but ingenuity and determination to win. You will receive clues to your next destination. Upon arrival at that destination you will have a task to complete, then you will receive the next clue. The first person to complete them all successfully, wins.

Friday @ 7PM: Movie & Bike Ride. Meet at the Young Theater and watch the film 'Crash' as a part of the LU Film Series (Free to LU Students). Afterwards, we will cruise around campus and Saint Charles, bringing an end to bike week.

Nick said...

Maybe we should head up to St. Chuck and promote a little STL Bike polo on Tuesday???

As if one Saint Louis club were not enough, there are now two clubs occupying a 30-minute radius of The Arch.

League of Bike Polo will not like this news. Not one bit.

Anonymous said...

Little did you know the Arch was built to draw all polo clubs to St. Louis. Its like a gigantic magnet drawing polo people to the best polo club in the world.

Rose said...

Sounds like maybe the Arch Effect applies to bike polo, too.

Nick said...

Some stuff came up at home. I dont think i will be able to make it.

STL BIKE POLO said...

I'm not sure they are even playing. I left comments on their FB event page and sent an email to the dude who wanted the mallets. No response from either. If you check out the even page on FB it says polo was a 50/50 chance. I'm not going to St. Charles w/out some confirmation.

STL BIKE POLO said...

Just got an email - CANCELLED. They did not have enough people and have cancelled. Another time...

Information said...

After chatting with a few people this weekend, I think a good solution for divvying up Lock-In spots is to have clubs/individuals send us awesome stuff.

Imagine this: We announce that we will reserve a certain number of spots for the person or club that sends us the most awesome FedEx package (read "bribe") before a certain date.

Thoughts?

Rose said...

Lock in: assign certain size flat rate box to everyone and see who makes the most of their limitations. At the same time, no size limit is kind of exciting...

nick said...

The more spots the larger the box?

or

The more spots the smaller the box?

I vote the first.

Anonymous said...

remember how annoying and egotistical it was when mke made an e-alleycat for midwest registration? lets not be like them. make registration easy and keep partying fun. the flat rate box is a fun idea to get people amped, but no one should be turned down because they don't have the means/desire to bribe us.

Ben said...

Screw it. Open registration is easiest.

Rose said...

Good call, anonymous!

King said...

Most reliable show off isn't all it's cut out to be. I need a backiotomy.

Anonymous said...

Does it rain EVERY wednesday now? This whole embracing the weather thing isn't going so well.

Anonymous said...

What about our covered winter location?

Anonymous said...

It doesn't exist.

Anonymous said...

Polo tonight y/n?

King said...

It does exist. It's not the perfect smooth surface we have grown fond of. It's a covered pavilion with concrete floor that is stamped to simulate stone. It's definitely playable and it's the best we've got so far. Also two garages rite next to it that I think we can get away with playing in. Iv played on worse so why not give it a shot?
-Jake-

Jon Rinehart said...

I agree with jake. It doesn't seem ideal but its better than anything else we have. That one garage just north of the bridge looks cool though.

lucky said...

Why don't you selectively invite all the clubs within a four hour drive of stl. Sure, you'll eliminate a lot of fun clubs and cool people, but you shouldn't expect folks to make a drive to an event that you won't.

This probably sounds snotty, but I'm being sincere. Make it a regional event.

Anonymous said...

Just because we don't drive over 4 hrs to play polo, doesn't mean others can't drive more than that to play polo with us. There is better polo on an average Sunday in STL than most tournaments.

Anonymous said...

I don't see how our unwillingness to travel more than four hours for polo should limit people's willingness to travel 4+ hours to polo with us.

If someone wants to travel 10, 20, or 40 hours to polo and party with us, more power to them!

The only club within four hours of STL is CoMo. And maybe Bloomington, Indiana if Ben is driving.

Anonymous said...

Clubs within 4 hours:
Columbia MO, Kansas City MO, Springfield MO, Decatur IL, Champaign IL, Lafayette IN, Indianapolis IN, Bloomington IN, Louisville KY, and Memphis TN.

Andrew WK said...

PARTY TIP: If you're body is working, tell it thank you.

Anonymous said...

STL to Kansas City - 4:07
STL to Lafayette - 4:46
STL to Louisville - 4:21
STL to Bloomington - 4:18
STL to Memphis - 4:35

Anonymous must not understand how "within" works.

Plus, I don't even think KC has a club anymore.

Tim A said...

STL polo is an enigma to most players outside of MO. I think lots of people would make the drive from all across the country in hopes of having some of the club's magic rub off on them in one 24-hour fun fest. Basically, don't listen to the retiree...

King said...

Haha. Old people
